Weather guarantee: what platforms actually refund in case of a storm
Weather-related cancellation, optional guarantee, standard refunds: how platforms' weather policies really work for boat rentals.
A storm forecast the day before departure, and the question that follows right away: will it be refunded? The answer depends on the platform and the option chosen at booking.
The basic principle
When the operator or owner cancels the rental because the weather makes the outing unsafe (rough sea, storm, strong wind), most platforms refund the renter — this is a cancellation on the professional's initiative, not the customer's. The real question is usually about service fees, sometimes not refunded in that case.
The optional weather guarantee
Some platforms, including Click&Boat, offer an optional weather guarantee to add at booking. It generally covers a broader refund, including some cases where you, the renter, back out over degraded but not fully blocking weather.
What is almost never covered
A simply grey sky, a slightly choppy but navigable sea, or a last-minute change of mind unrelated to the day's actual weather: in these cases the cancellation is at your expense under the platform's and operator's terms.
The reflex before booking
Read the cancellation policy shown on each listing before paying, especially for a distant trip or a large budget (a week-long catamaran charter, a day yacht): that is where the gap between platforms shows the most. Our deposit and insurance guide covers the other points to check.
What to remember
- Cancellation by the operator for unsafe weather: refund generally granted, service fees sometimes excluded.
- Optional weather guarantee: worth considering for a distant, costly booking.
- Check the cancellation policy shown on each listing — it varies by platform, see also our deposit and insurance guide.
