BOAT-COMPARATOR Guide
Renting a boat in Saint-Martin, in the Caribbean
One island, two countries: French Saint-Martin and Dutch Sint Maarten, the Simpson Bay Lagoon, and where to rent a boat.
Saint-Martin, in the Caribbean, has the distinction of being shared for nearly four centuries between a French side to the north (capital Marigot) and a Dutch side to the south, Sint Maarten (capital Philipsburg) — with no closed border between the two.
The Simpson Bay Lagoon
Between the two sides of the island, the Simpson Bay Lagoon forms a large, protected body of water lined with marinas, particularly suited to families for sheltered sailing.
Three departure points
Boats mainly set off from Marigot on the French side, Anse Marcel further north, or Oyster Pond on the Dutch east side — each opening onto slightly different waters.
The trade winds, an advantage
The trade winds blow steadily and moderately across the Caribbean, offering more predictable sailing conditions than the gustier Mediterranean winds.
