GlobeSailor is a boat rental platform with a cruising focus: sailboats and catamarans by the week, skippered or crewed charters, with advice before booking. It is a good choice for a week-long cruise and a weak one for a quick day out. It completes the quartet of platforms Boat-Comparator queries every day. As with the other three, there is no affiliation and no partnership: we compare its offers live and report what we see, without softening the picture in either direction. Its profile sits somewhere between the pure generalists and the charter specialists, which makes it worth understanding properly.
What GlobeSailor does well
GlobeSailor has a cruising DNA: sailboats and catamarans by the week, skippered or crewed cruises, by-the-cabin formulas. Yet its coverage is nothing like a narrow specialist's: in our internal audit of 8 July 2026 across 103 destinations, the platform was present in 101 of them. Guidance is the other distinctive point we observe: quote requests, advice before booking, help choosing the boat and the sailing area. For a significant project — a crewed charter, a first week-long cruise — that human dimension is reassuring. Listings clearly distinguish the formulas — bareboat, skipper only, full crew — which avoids misunderstandings about who sails and who decides on board.
Where it falls short
The cruising focus has its flip side: for a simple motorboat day out or a licence-free rental, GlobeSailor is rarely the best-stocked ground, and the pure generalists then offer more choice. Going through a quote can also lengthen the journey when you want to book fast. The market constants remain: service fees within the 0 to 9% range we observe, and a cancellation policy that varies with each operator — check every listing before committing. And as everywhere, the final quality depends on the boat actually delivered: previous renters' reviews remain compulsory reading, whatever the platform's own presentation — a 2016 study by Ert, Fleischer and Magen in Tourism Management found that these trust signals often outweigh the listed price in the booking decision (see the study).
Who it is the right choice for
GlobeSailor will speak to those preparing a proper cruise: a week under sail in the Mediterranean, a family catamaran, or the classic hesitation between going with or without a skipper. The more your project calls for advice, the stronger the platform looks; the shorter and simpler it is, the less it stands out. Beginners still unsure about their cruising area will get particular value from the advice: better to ask the question beforehand than to discover on the spot that the waters are too demanding for the crew.

What this table doesn't show at a glance — but what we verified on each platform's own help pages — is that cancellation doesn't work the same way everywhere. On SamBoat, the owner picks one of four policies (Flexible, Zen, Moderate, or a custom policy reserved for professionals); under Zen, the most common one, the owner keeps 30% of the rental if you cancel five days or more before departure, and 100% if you cancel later — service fees themselves are never refunded either way. Click&Boat has a feature unique to this market: the Weather Guarantee, limited to day rentals, which refunds you in full (as a one-year voucher) once the owner approves a weather-related cancellation, with disputes settled against International Maritime Organization criteria. Boataround, unlike the three marketplaces, advertises a platform-wide free-cancellation guarantee rather than leaving it entirely to the owner — while still telling renters to double-check each listing's own terms. GlobeSailor, finally, runs more like a classic charter contract: what you get back depends on which contractual milestone you've already reached (signing, deposit, balance) rather than a simple day countdown.
One rule beats everything else: at comparable coverage, never judge an offer on its headline price alone. Compare the real total (boat plus service fees) for your exact dates on each platform rather than assuming one is always cheaper — the academic literature on online markets explains why: a 2000 study by Brynjolfsson and Smith in Management Science found that easy price comparison online does not eliminate meaningful price dispersion between sellers, even for comparable goods (see the study).
Deposit: the amount tracks the boat's size
Unlike Click&Boat or SamBoat, which list a flat amount per listing, GlobeSailor's deposit tracks the size of the boat you book: around €1,000 for a RIB or small motorboat, €2,000 to €3,000 for a sailboat, and €4,000 to €10,000 for a catamaran or yacht. The platform's franchise buyback costs 4 to 8% of the rental amount depending on the sailing area (Europe or worldwide) and the boat's deposit amount; since 2025, GlobeSailor has also offered a full deposit buyback covering the entire deposit, not just the franchise above a threshold. On a catamaran or yacht booked for several weeks, this line item can top €5,000 — worth budgeting for alongside the headline price. Shoulder season on GlobeSailor: what our readings show
Do not count on an automatic September discount. Across the four platforms, our weekly readings showed a median sailboat day in Athens of €740 for September departures against €513 for August, then €494 for October and €342 for November; in Split, sailboat medians rose from €215 (August departures) to €351 (October). The shoulder season mostly brings quieter anchorages, which is where GlobeSailor's advice on choosing a cruising area earns its keep, notably for a crewed charter. GlobeSailor had offers in 101 of our 183 destinations over the last four weeks, the narrowest coverage of the four platforms, and shows about 8 boats per search (median) against 15 to 23 elsewhere. Its median displayed price, about €360 a day, is the lowest of the four. Part of that is method: GlobeSailor publishes weekly prices, which our connector divides by seven, and its visible listings lean toward sailboats booked by the week.
Use it as a second opinion for week-long sailing charters. For a day rental, its visible offer is too thin to be your only tab.
