When to sail in Turkey

Crewed gulets are a local institution, often leaving from Bodrum, Göcek or Fethiye. April–June and September–October are the most pleasant.

Göcek, Turkey’s charter capital — and its cheapest yacht market

Our readings from 5 to 11 September 2026, thirty days ahead of departure, cover the eight Turkish bases and deliver a clear counter-intuition. On yachts, the daily median is €1,300 in Göcek on a solid sample of 21 offers, against €3,374 in Bodrum (29 offers), €3,725 in Antalya (38 offers) and €3,737 in Marmaris (3 offers). In other words, the country’s most specialised base — the one whose Gulf of Fethiye anchorages make its reputation — is also where entry into the category is most affordable.

The overall hierarchy follows the same logic: a €518 daily median in Fethiye (40 offers), €778 in Marmaris (47 offers) and €830 in Göcek (57 offers), against €1,738 in Bodrum (86 offers) and €2,921 in Antalya (50 offers). The Lycian riviera, between Fethiye and Göcek, is the best value in the country.

Sailboats and catamarans: a tight market

On sailboats the spread between bases stays modest for a zone this size: €457 in Fethiye (17 offers), €495 in Marmaris (25 offers) and €531 in Göcek (19 offers), against €1,500 in Bodrum (33 offers) — a one-to-three range. On catamarans it is tighter still: €570 in Fethiye (10 offers), €797 in Marmaris (11 offers), €847 in Göcek (8 offers) and €1,021 in Bodrum (4 offers), a range of barely one to one-point-eight. It is one of the most uniform zones we measure in this format, and that simplifies the decision: here, pick the water, not the rate.

One data gap to state plainly: our September readings find no usable RIB or license-free offer in Turkey. That does not mean none exist — only that our collection recorded none on those dates, and we would rather say so than publish an invented figure. Turkey is chartered by the week first and foremost, by sailboat, catamaran or gulet.

What a clean bay is worth, to the people who sail it

A study by Özge Can and Emre Alp, published in 2012 in Science of The Total Environment, looked at Göcek Bay, designated a specially protected area yet threatened by pollution from the growth of boat tourism. Using the choice experiment method, the authors put a figure on what the people concerned are willing to pay to restore the site: residents would accept 18 Turkish lira per month and tourists 16.6 lira per boat trip for better water quality, and 14.8 and 11.2 lira respectively for restored marine life.
