Twelve harbours, and a protected area that counts its anchors

Fethiye harbour is 4 km away, Ece Marina 4.1 km, Mai Sun City 4.7 km and Yes Marina 4.8 km; after that you must reach Göcek, some twenty kilometres out, where five basins follow one another between 19.5 and 20.5 km, before Kapı Creek at 20.8 km: 12 harbours inside the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap data, ODbL), a low density — 149th of our 183 bases. That small number of harbours for many boats has a measured consequence. A study by Emine Şükran Okudan and colleagues, published in 2011 in the Journal of Coastal Research, mapped anchoring impact on the Posidonia oceanica meadows of the Fethiye-Göcek Specially Protected Area: the zone then held five marinas, 1,210 berths and over 2,500 visiting yachts a day in summer, and the fieldwork — 581 scuba dives and 335 free dives — revealed a significant difference in meadow cover between areas scarred by anchors and chains and areas free of them (see the study). Those traffic figures date from 2010-2011; the practical advice has not aged: anchor on light sand, never on the dark patches, and use the mooring buoys in the Göcek bays. September at −12%, and a skippered market that needs reading differently

The median falls from €537 for August outings to €472 for September ones, −12%: one of the clear drops in this wave, level with Sitges. Fleet composition explains the price: 21 sailboats out of 53 offers, 40% of the catalogue — Fethiye is a sailing and gulet base, not a day-motorboat one.
