Boat Rental in Istria: Pula and Rovinj
A Roman amphitheatre, the Brijuni Islands, Rovinj's old town: exploring Croatia's Istrian peninsula by boat, between heritage and quiet coves.
In northern Croatia, the Istrian peninsula offers gentler sailing than Dalmatia, with outstanding Roman and Venetian heritage visible right from the water.
Pula and its amphitheatre
From Pula, the silhouette of the Roman amphitheatre — one of the best-preserved in the world — comes into view from offshore as you leave the harbour, a vantage point few land-based visitors ever see. The coast south of town, quieter than Dalmatia at peak season, alternates rocky coves and small pebble beaches.
Brijuni Islands National Park
Off Pula, the Brijuni archipelago forms a protected national park, known for its deer parks and its past as a Yugoslav presidential residence. Landing is regulated and often limited to organised visits: check access conditions before adding it to your itinerary.
Rovinj, the Venetian postcard
Further north, Rovinj is the most photogenic town on the Istrian coast: its colourful houses packed onto a small peninsula, topped by the bell tower of St. Euphemia's church, look their best from a boat rounding the point. The small islands of the Rovinj archipelago, just offshore, offer calm anchorages for a swim stop.
Easy sailing for beginners
Distances between stops stay short, the water is largely sheltered by the shape of the coast, and well-equipped marinas (Pula, Rovinj) make it an easy first experience on a RIB or a sailboat. It's a quieter alternative to Split or Zadar for a first taste of Croatia.
Budget and comparison
Expect €200-600/day for a RIB, €300-700/day (or €1,500-4,000/week) for a sailboat. Boat-Comparator compares Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor listings in Pula and Rovinj in a single search, service fees (0-9%) included in the display.
