Boat rental in Rovinj: compare every platform
Rovinj is a major charter base in Istria: sailboats and catamarans mostly rent Saturday to Saturday. Boat-Comparator compares the available fleets across the major platforms live, with firm weekly prices.
The Rovinj archipelago, a slow-speed playground
Few rental bases offer this much this close: Sveta Katarina lies a few cables off the harbour, Red Island (Crveni otok) and neighbouring Maškin barely a mile out, and the rest of the archipelago strings south along the coast. Five to six nautical miles north opens the Lim channel, Istria's "fjord": its inner reach is a protected zone dotted with shellfish farms, strictly slow-speed — and some rental contracts exclude it altogether, so ask at the briefing.
The Croatian rule: license mandatory
Any motorboat in Croatia requires a recognised license, whatever its power. Without one, skippered day trips cover the archipelago and the Lim channel perfectly well; with one, bareboat range runs from Vrsar up to Poreč. The accepted papers are detailed in our guide to Croatian license requirements.
September in Istria
The winter bora is still far off, the maestral mellows, the sea stays at its warmest — and rate cards drop well below August. The regulars' favourite slot, booked two to four weeks out. Extra fees (deposit, excess, cancellation) also vary from platform to platform — our platform comparison puts them side by side before you book.
Rovinj's waters, in practice
Istria’s west coast, an archipelago of wooded islets around the Venetian old town. Wind-wise: a steady Istrian maestral, the bora losing much of its Kvarner violence here.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Rovinj marina, facing the old-town peninsula. The local classics: the St Catherine and Red islands, the Lim channel — an oyster fjord — and Vrsar and Poreč to the north. High season: from May to September, against Croatia’s most Venetian backdrop.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a boat rental cost in Rovinj?
Roughly €100–250 per day for a license-free boat, €200–600 for a RIB, more for motorboats, sailboats and catamarans. Boat-Comparator compares the real prices published by the platforms at the time of your search.
Do I need a license to rent a boat in Rovinj?
Careful in Croatia: a recognised license is mandatory for any motorboat, whatever its power (and a VHF qualification is requested for liveaboard units). True bareboat "no-license" rental does not exist — the options are a skippered trip or a recognised foreign license (ICC among them). Check this point before comparing prices.
Which platforms list boats in Rovinj?
Boat-Comparator queries Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor live, showing price, photo, rating and booking link for every offer.
What can you see in one boat day from Rovinj?
The archipelago first: Sveta Katarina a few cables out, Red Island and Maškin barely a mile away, then the coast running south. In fair seas, the mouth of the Lim channel, five to six nautical miles north, rounds off the day — its inner reach remains regulated.
Can a rental boat enter the Lim channel?
Not always: the channel’s inner reach is a protected zone occupied by oyster and mussel farms, strictly slow-speed, and several operators exclude it from their permitted area. Check at the briefing before promising the fjord to your crew.
