Yacht Rental in Monaco: Chartering from Port Hercule
Yacht rental in Monaco from Port Hercule: routes towards Menton or Cap Ferrat, crew and fuel billing explained, realistic budget and how to compare offers.
Few departures are as spectacular as Monaco's: barely out of Port Hercule, the Rock slides past on one side, the towers of Monte-Carlo on the other, and the coast opens up towards Italy in one direction and Cap Ferrat in the other. Chartering a yacht here is straightforward, provided you understand what the rate covers and how the day is structured. Here is the practical guide.
Port Hercule, boarding in the heart of the Principality
Port Hercule is Monaco's historic deep-water harbour, right below the Palace. Day charters leave from the inner pontoons, a short walk from La Condamine; your operator confirms the exact quay the day before. The port is busy with large yachts, and watching them manoeuvre is part of the show. On a yacht the skipper is all but mandatory — they handle the formalities and the harbour exit, which gets crowded in summer.
Two classic routes out of Monaco
Heading east, it is a short cruise to the bay of Roquebrune and Menton, with a swim stop under Cap Martin, well sheltered in westerly winds. Heading west, the classic run strings together Beaulieu, the bay of Villefranche — one of the finest natural shelters on this coast — and a lap of Cap Ferrat with lunch at anchor. Both fit comfortably into a day, swims included; your crew adjusts the route to the day's wind.
If you are boarding around a major event — the Grand Prix weekend, fireworks, an evening at the quay — book well ahead: availability melts away months in advance and prices follow demand. Outside those peaks, the Principality lends itself very well to an improvised weekday outing, often with calmer water into the bargain. Either way, allow a little slack in your schedule: summer traffic at the harbour mouth can delay departure by a few minutes.
Crew, fuel, extras: the real budget
Yachts start from around €2,500 a day. The rate generally includes the boat, the crew and basic insurance; fuel is very often billed on actual consumption at the end of the trip, based on engine hours. Catering, water toys or a hostess are added on request, and platforms charge service fees of 0 to 9%. Compare offers before you book
The same boat is often listed on several platforms with a 10 to 25% price difference. Boat-Comparator compares Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor live on yachts for rent in Monaco, with no affiliation to any of them. Check the cancellation policy, which varies from owner to owner, and if your dates are flexible, look at the neighbouring ports of the French Riviera too: the choice is wider and sometimes better priced.
