The authors assess raster-based static flood modelling techniques applied to 27 marshes of contrasting geomorphology, combining LiDAR data, post-storm delineation of flooded areas and sea levels from both tide gauges and storm surge modelling: static methods are suitable for marshes where the distance between the shoreline and the landward marsh limit is short, because those marshes flood quickly, but they overestimate flooded areas for large marshes, where flooding cannot be treated as instantaneous; there, semi-dynamic methods based on overflow volume computation markedly improve the prediction (see the study).
