Eleven licence-free offers at €215: Italy's 40 hp rule, in figures
Reading of 31 August 2026 for a 30 September outing: 40 offers, median €392 per day, first offer at €140, the dearest at €2,329. The figure to keep is not the median but the licence-free line: 11 offers, €215 median, €140 to €350. That is one of the largest "license-free" samples in our whole collection, and it is no accident — Italy is the most permissive country in the Mediterranean, with no licence required up to 40 hp (30 kW) within 6 nautical miles of the coast. The motorboat follows at €652 across 12 offers (€291 to €1,200) and the RIB at €291 across 6 offers (€198 to €1,514). The high-end categories are too thin for a median and we give them as such: 3 sailboats from €1,141 to €2,329, one yacht offer at €1,647, and one catamaran offer at €2,340 dated 17 August. 39 marinas in the radius — and the bubbles of the Castello Aragonese
Ischia Portosalvo is 400 metres away, Casamicciola 2.5 km, Lacco Ameno 4 km, Chiaiolella 5.7 km, Forio 6.6 km, Sant'Angelo 6.7 km, the Procida marina 8.3 km and Acquamorta with its 700 berths 10.2 km; Capri Marina Grande is 33.3 km out, for a total of 39 marinas within the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap records). Seven of them lie within ten kilometres: Ischia is short-hop water. At the foot of the Castello Aragonese, the columns of bubbles rising from the seabed are no curiosity but the most studied natural laboratory for ocean acidification in the world. A study by Jason Hall-Spencer and colleagues, published in 2008 in Nature, recorded a gradient there from a normal pH of 8.1-8.2 down to a mean of 7.8-7.9, with minima at 7.4-7.5: across a few dozen metres, sea urchins and coralline algae vanish, and at pH 7.6 gastropod shells actively dissolve (see the study). One more reason to anchor on clear sand and leave this seabed alone. See the marinas around Ischia, our Naples base and our guide to anchoring without damaging seagrass.
September: −2%, a rate card that does not move
The median moves from €383 for August outings to €376 for September ones, i.e. −2%: stability itself. The Gulf of Naples does not run the shoulder-season discount of Menorca (−29%) or the Cyclades (−23%) — what September brings here is warm water and emptier anchorages around Procida and Punta Cornacchia, not a markdown. On the rules: above 40 hp, licence or skipper; below it, a briefing and respect for swimming zones are enough, and the 11 logged offers confirm it. Ischia's waters, in practice
The largest island in the Gulf of Naples, volcanic and thermal, ringed by contrasting bays. Wind-wise: an island circuit that changes sea state at every headland, with breezes staying moderate in season.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Ischia Porto and Casamicciola harbours, facing the mainland. The local classics: the Aragonese castle on its islet, the Sorgeto bay with hot springs in the sea, and Sant’Angelo to the south. High season: from May to September, spas and anchorages sharing the clientele.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a boat rental cost in Ischia?
Roughly €100–250 per day for a license-free boat, €200–600 for a RIB, more for motorboats, sailboats and catamarans. Boat-Comparator compares the real prices published by the platforms at the time of your search.
Do I need a license to rent a boat in Ischia?
Italy is the most permissive country: no license up to 40 hp (30 kW), within 6 nautical miles of the coast. That is why the "senza patente" fleets of Sardinia, Sicily and the Amalfi coast are so large. Still mandatory: safety equipment on board and respect for swimming zones.
