RIB rental in Skiathos

From Skiathos, the Sporades open up to sailboats and catamarans alike — legendary waters where prices vary widely between platforms. Boat-Comparator aggregates real offers and lets you book directly with the operator.

The RIB is the Swiss-army knife of a day at sea in Skiathos: fast, seaworthy, easy to beach in coves, with room for a whole crew of friends. It is the most-rented format on the coast — and the one where price gaps between platforms are most visible, since every operator sets its own rate and fuel policy.

Expect €200–600 per day depending on length and engine, fuel usually extra (€20–60 per hour under way). A license is required above 6 hp in France; many operators in Skiathos offer a skipper option if you don't hold one.

€419 median on 8 offers — and €414 for the motorboat the same day

Survey of 2 September 2026 for a 2 October departure: 8 RIBs in Skiathos, median €419 per day, from €225 to €1,100. Across the 152 bases where our surveys produce a usable RIB median, Skiathos ranks 90th by ascending median — the exact middle of the table. That is not the interesting figure. The interesting one is the gap with the other categories in the same survey, on the same date and for the same departure. The motorboat comes out at a €414 median on 24 offers, five euros below the RIB, on a catalogue three times deeper. The sailboat drops to €348 on 8 offers, and the catamaran rises to €712 on 9 offers. In other words: in Skiathos, picking a RIB over a motorboat does not save money, it changes what the day looks like. All categories combined, the 58 offers in the survey span €182 to €2,152, for a €417 median. Our RIB rental guide explains what the hull actually changes, and the boat rental platform comparison shows who lists what.

Two departure points under 6 km, then a 22 km gap

According to the OpenStreetMap extract, Skiathos has only two nearby departure points: Ormos Katavathra, 1.5 km from the centre, and Koukounaries Marina, 5.3 km away, at the far end of the island by Koukounaries beach. After that, nothing until 28.5 km — a mole on the Magnesia coast — then the mainland: the marina of Volos (the extract labels it in Greek script, Μαρίνα Βόλου) and Volos itself, some 48 km out. That geography explains the small catalogue: an island with two pontoons cannot field the fleets of a mainland base. The cruising ground is the real argument — the Northern Sporades are a day trip by RIB, and our guide to boat rental in the Sporades covers the routes. The National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades, which begins east of Skiathos, is scientifically monitored: a study by Giovanni Chimienti, Michela Maiorca, Markos Digenis and Dimitris Poursanidis, published in 2023 in Marine Pollution Bulletin, examined its octocoral forests between 30 and 45 metres deep. The authors record dense stands — up to 55.2 colonies per square metre for the yellow sea fan Eunicella cavolini and 28.0 for the red sea fan Paramuricea clavata — but colonies showing signs of stress, with mortality still low; among the stressors they list macroalgal epibiosis, tip necrosis and abandoned fishing gear (see the study). Those beds lie under the anchorages: a concrete reason to take a mooring buoy where one exists. Port-by-port pages are gathered in the marina hub around Skiathos.

October departures, Greek licence rules, and €218 license-free

By departure month, our RIB surveys give a €529 median for August 2026 departures (3 surveys), €384 for September ones (3 surveys) and €419 for October ones (a single survey). The August-to-September fall — 27 % — is the only one of the three resting on comparable samples; the €419 for October comes from one pass and is worth reading as an indication, nothing more. On the rules: in Greece, operators commonly rent boats up to 30 hp without a licence, after a briefing and a signed waiver; above that, licence or skipper, with the local port police always having the final say on its waters. That is what makes the license-free category genuinely usable here: 6 offers in the same survey, median €218, from €185 to €340 — half the RIB, for a shorter day and a tighter area.
