Boat rental in Syros: compare every platform
From Syros, the Cyclades open up to sailboats and catamarans alike — legendary waters where prices vary widely between platforms. Boat-Comparator aggregates real offers and lets you book directly with the operator.
€990 median: the Cycladic price, RIB included
Reading of 31 August 2026 for a 30 September outing: 36 offers, median €990 per day, first offer at €270, the dearest at €6,101. The figure that best tells the Cyclades story is the RIB: a €873 median across 9 offers (€270 to €1,339). In our collection, the five most expensive RIBs are all Cycladic — Mykonos €1,050, Milos €1,032, Paros €1,000, Naxos €903 and Syros €873 — when the same category comes out at €299 in Royan. That is not a rate gap but a product gap: in the archipelago, RIBs are rented as guided day trips with a driver, not bareboat. The sailboat is the real volume here (15 offers, €815 median, €386 to €3,493), ahead of the yacht (5 offers, €3,493, €1,630 to €6,101), the catamaran (2 offers, €1,337) and the motorboat (2 offers, €1,165). A note on method: the "license-free" line returned for Syros, one offer at €507, is identical figure for figure to that of eight other bases in the collection, from Lisbon to the Seychelles — artefact discarded, not published. See choosing the right platform and "from" price or firm price.
Two harbours, then 26 kilometres of nothing
Syros marina is 1.4 km away and the Finikas fishing shelter 7.7 km — and the next harbour is 33.8 km out, on Tinos. Twelve marinas in all within the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap records), including Paroikia on Paros at 43.6 km and Naxos marina at 53.6 km: one of the emptiest radii among our bases (157th of 183). In other words, in Syros you leave from and return to the same place, and a crossing to a neighbouring island takes the whole day. Ermoupoli is no postcard harbour either: the administrative capital of the Cyclades has lived to the rhythm of the Neorion shipyard since the 19th century, and that industrial heritage is still measurable ashore. A study by Ioannis Massas and colleagues, published in 2009 in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, sampled Ermoupoli's urban soils and found mean concentrations of 440 mg/kg of zinc, 155 mg/kg of lead and 117 mg/kg of copper, up to four times higher than the island's inland reference soils (see the study). The study covers soils, not water: what to take from it is that Syros is a working-town stopover — provisioning, repairs, shops — and that swimming is looked for round the coast, at Kini, Galissas or Vari. September: −23%, and a more manageable meltemi
The median moves from €913 for August outings to €704 for September ones, i.e. −23%. The Cyclades are one of the few areas where the shoulder season reads clearly in the rate cards, and the meltemi, the northerly that blows across the Aegean all summer, is generally more manageable in September than in July-August — without ever disappearing: it is what cancels ferry rotations, and it is what will cancel your outing. On the rules: in Greece operators commonly rent boats up to 30 hp without a licence, after a briefing and a signed waiver, but our 31 August reading returns no reliable offer in that category in Syros — and the local port police keeps the final say on its waters. Syros's waters, in practice
The administrative capital of the Cyclades, a neoclassical amphitheatre set on an honest roadstead. Wind-wise: an honest summer meltemi, Finikas giving the leeward shelter when Ermoupoli takes the swell.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Ermoupoli harbour and the Finikas marina to the south-west. The local classics: the Ermoupoli quays and Ano Syros, the Galissas and Kini bays at sunset, and Mykonos and Tinos next door. High season: from May to October, the island living year-round — an asset off season.
