A closed roadstead, eight harbours within five kilometres

The wet dock is 800 metres away, the outer harbour 1.4 km, the Pen Mané slipway 2.3 km, the Ter watersports base 2.5 km, Port Saint-Catherine 3 km, Kernevel 3.1 km, Port de la Pointe 4.4 km and Locmalo 5 km; then the coast opens up — Le Pouldu at 12.2 km, Doëlan at 18 km, Merrien at 21.1 km — for a total of 39 harbours inside the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap data, ODbL). This closed roadstead is also a laboratory: a study by Mikaël Kedzierski and colleagues, published in 2018 in Marine Pollution Bulletin, immersed PVC, PET and a so-called biodegradable plastic (PBAT) for 502 days in the bay of Lorient. The finding: aged PVC rapidly releases estrogenic compounds into seawater before adsorbing heavy metals, and the "biodegradable" PBAT ages faster than PVC without being any cleaner (see the study).
