Tracking of nitrogen sources shows that each river contributes locally to the green tides of its own bay; the dynamic modelling concludes that river nitrate concentrations would have to be brought down to between 5 and 15 mg/l depending on the bay in order to halve the ulva biomass on the coasts (see the study).
