Boat Rental in Praslin: Curieuse and Anse Lazio

Boat rental in Praslin: Curieuse island and its giant tortoises, snorkelling at St Pierre, Anse Lazio from the sea, which boat to choose, seasons, budget.

Praslin gathers within a few miles the most photogenic side of the Seychelles: pink granite boulders, translucent water, coral islets and beaches regularly ranked among the finest in the world. A boat here is not a luxury — it is the only way to link these wonders in a single day.

The star spots around Praslin

Three stops make up the classic day. Curieuse, a former leper colony turned national park, where giant tortoises roam free around Baie Laraie — landing is managed by the rangers, and the marine park charges entry fees detailed in each listing. The islet of St Pierre, a tiny cluster of granite and coconut palms, offers some of the easiest snorkelling in the archipelago. Finally, the legendary Anse Lazio is best earned from the sea: anchoring off the beach spares you the road and the walk, and the view from the water is incomparable. The curious can push on to Cousin, a bird reserve with supervised visits, or to nearby La Digue.

Which boat to choose

The most common formula is a skippered motorboat: local skippers know the passes through the reef, the authorised moorings and the tide windows that change everything. A RIB suits more independent crews, within the zone defined by the rental company. To experience the whole archipelago, a catamaran by the week is the reference: anchorages off the beaches, life on board, island-hopping between Praslin, Mahé and the neighbouring islands. See our dedicated catamaran charter page.

When to go

The Seychelles are a year-round destination with two trade-wind regimes: the south-east flow, from May to October, brings drier air but a more developed sea on exposed coasts; the north-west flow, from November to April, is warmer and more humid. The inter-seasons, around April–May and October–November, often offer the flattest water — ideal for snorkelling at St Pierre.

One final planning point: outings are often timed around the tide, which governs the passage over the reef flats and access to certain beaches. Rental companies on Praslin generally offer either the full day with a Creole picnic, or a half day centred on Curieuse and St Pierre — the full-day formula is well worth the difference if Anse Lazio is on your programme.

Budget: the ranges we see

Expect 250–900 € per day for a motorboat, 200–600 € per day for a RIB, 3,000–8,000 € per week for a catamaran, and 150–350 € per day for a skipper. For an identical boat, platforms show gaps of 10–25 %, with service fees of 0 to 9 %: Boat-Comparator compares their live offers in the Seychelles, with no affiliation to any of them.
