A team that has anchored together in a cove never talks the same way at the office: the day at sea has become a team-building classic — provided the format fits. A review, per-person budgets included.
The three formats that work
The skippered catamaran (10-12 people): the convivial platform par excellence — briefing, gentle sailing, swim-stop anchorage, lunch aboard. Expect €80-150/person for the day. The RIB flotilla (teams of 6-8 per boat, with skippers): the dynamic option, nautical-rally spirit, €100-180/person. The coached regatta on sailboats with instructor-skippers: the real crew experience, €150-250/person — unforgettable and demanding.
The organisational traps
Seasickness for one participant in ten (plan sheltered water and remedies), weather (lock a fallback date INTO the contract), non-swimmers (not a question for the night before), and alcohol — the anchorage aperitif yes, the sailing afterwards to the professional skipper only.
The logistics that reassure
Go through professionals with skippers: business insurance, guaranteed capacity, a single invoice. Groups beyond 12 mean several boats (passenger regulations) — actually a blessing: the flotilla creates the buzz. Book 4-8 weeks ahead for May-June and September slots, the golden months of the nautical offsite.
Where to do it
The safe bets: Marseille-Frioul, the Villefranche roadstead, the Gulf of Morbihan, La Rochelle. The criterion: a train-accessible port + sheltered water + anchorages within the hour — the winning trio of corporate timing.
