Nothing under €1,900: Barcelona's particularity

Survey of 6 September 2026 for a 6 October departure: 13 yachts, a €3,400 daily median, from €1,900 to €7,980 — the 21st deepest yacht catalogue of our 139 bases. The figure that sets Barcelona apart is not the median but the floor: among Spanish bases whose yacht catalogue holds at least ten listings, it is the highest entry price — €1,900, against €1,180 in Palma (19 offers), €1,000 in Ibiza (22 offers) and €452 in Marbella (43 offers). The consequence is a strikingly compact range: 1-to-4.2 in Barcelona, while Marbella stretches 1-to-43. In other words there is no entry level here: the recorded fleet is professional and homogeneous, and the "opening price" does not exist. The catamaran at €5,290, or 1.6 times the yacht

In the same survey, the local inversion is worth flagging: the catamaran comes out at a €5,290 median on 12 offers (€581 to €8,580), or 1.6 times the yacht — the city's ceiling, €8,580, is a catamaran and not a yacht. The sailboat, meanwhile, holds the base's deepest catalogue with 40 offers at €1,260, ahead of the motorboat (11 offers, €697). Of the day's 84 offers, spanning €58 to €8,580 for a €1,399 median, the yacht accounts for just 13: in Barcelona the typical day is sailed, not motored. 160 kilometres of urban shoreline, studied metre by metre

Barcelona is one of the rare bases where you board on foot from the centre: the 19 harbours within 60 km are listed on the marina hub around Barcelona (OpenStreetMap data, ODbL), the first four sitting inside 2.5 kilometres. This shoreline is also among the best documented in Spain: a study by Aysun Köroğlu, Roshanka Ranasinghe, José A. Jiménez and Ali Dastgheib, published in 2019 in Ocean & Coastal Management, compared four methods of computing the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) applied to the 160 kilometres of the Barcelona coastline: Shaw et al.'s (1998) method emerges as the most realistic approach, while Gornitz's (1991) produces extreme variability, from "highly vulnerable" to "very low vulnerability"; the authors conclude that ranking tables built from a site-specific database may not be applicable elsewhere (see the study). It is a fair metaphor for our own surveys: a price level read in Barcelona does not travel to Marbella. By departure month the yacht gives €3,900 for August 2026 (4 surveys), €4,396 for September (5 surveys) and €3,400 for October (1 survey), the floor moving only from €1,750 to €1,900 across the whole series — a sign that it is the large units circulating, not the entry rates. On qualifications, Spain requires no title up to 15 hp (11 kW) on a hull of 5 m maximum — a frame with no bearing on this category, where skipper and crew are the rule.
