A motorboat three times dearer than the sailboat

Reading of 3 September 2026 for a 3 October outing, one of the most recent in our whole collection: 56 offers, median €897 per day, first offer at €197, the dearest at €8,000. The inversion is striking. The motorboat comes out at a €1,954 median across 10 offers (€695 to €6,608): the 5th dearest motorboat of our 163 bases with five offers or more, behind Portofino (€3,202), Lavrio (€2,300), Naples (€2,087) and Mykonos (€2,008). The sailboat, meanwhile, comes out at €579 across 8 offers (€232 to €1,390), more than three times cheaper on the same date. In between, the catamaran at €1,380 across 6 offers and the yacht at €5,095 across 6. Put plainly: in Malta a day in a motorboat sells for the price of a yacht elsewhere, and sail remains the only affordable route. Five marinas in three kilometres, then Gozo at 24 km

Excelsior Marina is 1 km away, Laguna Marina 1.3 km, Manoel Island Yacht Marina 1.5 km, Sa Maison 1.7 km and Portomaso 3.1 km; after that there is only Il-Menqa at 11.3 km and Mġarr marina, on Gozo, at 24 km: seven harbours inside the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap data, ODbL) — the 165th density of our 183 bases, quite simply because the archipelago ends there. The crossing to Comino and the Blue Lagoon is the classic plan, and that is where the seabed matters. A study by Joseph A. Borg, Ashley Rowden, Martin Attrill, Patrick Schembri and Malcolm Jones, published in 2009 in Mediterranean Marine Science, mapped the distribution of Posidonia oceanica around the Maltese Islands using aerial photography and scuba surveys: between 2 and 4 m depth, the meadow forms patches on rocky or sandy substratum; between 5 and 10 m it becomes reticulate, interspersed with bare sand; the switch to continuous beds happens between 11 and 13 m, and those extend to around 25-30 m. Translated for anchoring: the depth band where you naturally drop the hook is exactly the one where the meadow grows in patches — the clear sand is interstitial, and you have to aim for it by eye. September at +9%, and a licence-free line we do not quantify

The median rises from €536 for August outings to €586 for September ones, +9% across four readings each side; the October reading comes out at €897, but on a single pass — we give it without drawing a trend. As elsewhere in this wave, that rise mainly reflects a change in catalogue composition, not a climbing price list.
