Boat rental in Trapani: compare every platform
Renting a boat in Trapani (Sicily) opens up one of Italy's most beautiful coastlines. Each platform lists only its own fleet: Boat-Comparator queries them all and puts real prices, photos and ratings side by side.
Up to 40 hp with no license: the Italian rule works for Trapani
Italy requires no license up to 40 hp (30 kW), within 6 nautical miles of the coast — hence the harbour's well-stocked "senza patente" fleets. The crossing to the Egadi remains at the operator's discretion: some reserve it for licensed skippers or fair-weather days, and the exact zone is set at the briefing. Our license-free rental guide compares the thresholds country by country.
The Egadi day: Favignana, Levanzo, and Italy's largest marine protected area
Favignana and its turquoise calas (Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra) lie about nine nautical miles from the harbour — a long half hour by RIB, more in a capped boat. Levanzo, closer, makes the lunch stop; Marettimo, further and wilder, has to be earned. The whole archipelago is a marine protected area — Italy's largest: use the mooring buoys, no-go integral zones apply, and the zoning chart is handed over at the briefing. On the way home, the Trapani salt pans at sunset are worth the final detour.
September in Trapani
The Italian holidays stop dead at the end of August: Favignana empties, the sea stays warm and rate cards drop well below August. The best Egadi window of the year, booked two to four weeks out. Extra fees (deposit, excess, cancellation) also vary from platform to platform — our platform comparison puts them side by side before you book.
Trapani's waters, in practice
Sicily’s western tip between salt pans and the Egadi islands, one of Europe’s largest marine protected areas. Wind-wise: a crossroads of maestrale and sirocco — the Egadi always offer a leeward shore.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Trapani harbour, below Mount Erice. The local classics: Favignana and its turquoise calas, Levanzo and Marettimo, and the Trapani salt pans at sunset. High season: from May to September, Favignana saturating during the Italian holidays.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a boat rental cost in Trapani?
Roughly €100–250 per day for a license-free boat, €200–600 for a RIB, more for motorboats, sailboats and catamarans. Boat-Comparator compares the real prices published by the platforms at the time of your search.
Do I need a license to rent a boat in Trapani?
Italy is the most permissive country: no license up to 40 hp (30 kW), within 6 nautical miles of the coast. That is why the "senza patente" fleets of Sardinia, Sicily and the Amalfi coast are so large. Still mandatory: safety equipment on board and respect for swimming zones.
Which platforms list boats in Trapani?
Boat-Comparator queries Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor live, showing price, photo, rating and booking link for every offer.
When should you leave Trapani for the Egadi islands?
In the morning, almost always: these waters are a crossroads of maestrale and sirocco, and the crossing is far more comfortable before the breeze settles in. The Egadi advantage: whatever the wind, the archipelago always offers a leeward shore to anchor on.
Can you reach Favignana with a rental boat?
Yes in fair weather: about nine nautical miles from Trapani harbour. The archipelago is a marine protected area — use the buoys, integral zones are off-limits, anchor on sand only. The operator hands over the zoning chart at the briefing.
