From €58 to €19,600: why Marbella’s median misleads

Reading of 27 August 2026 for a 26 September outing: 100 offers, median €1,420 per day, first offer at €58, the dearest at €19,600. Marbella stacks up three extremes across the ten bases read this week: the highest median (€1,420), the cheapest single offer of all (€58) and the highest ceiling (€19,600). The ratio between the two ends reaches 338, against just 17 in Cagliari. It is the site’s best textbook case: here the median describes no real boat, it describes a catalogue split in two. The reason is plain — 44 of the 100 offers are yachts (€4,400 median, up to €19,600), nearly one in two. The rest of the market lives on a different floor entirely: motorboat €660 across 31 offers, from €58. The sailboat (€1,440, 3 offers), catamaran (€729, 2 offers) and license-free (€459, 2 offers) are too thinly sampled to settle anything, and no RIB offer came up at all on this reading — we flag it rather than paper over the gap. Four harbours in town, Puerto Banús seven kilometres out

Marbella packs its bases into a handkerchief (OpenStreetMap records): Marina la Bajadilla at 700 m, Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen at 800 m, Puerto Pesquero at 800 m and Marina Marbella at 900 m. The famous Puerto Deportivo José Banús — Puerto Banús — lies 6.7 km west, and that is where most of the yacht fleet distorting the median sits. Further out: Puerto Cabopino at 13 km and Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola at 24 km. The classic outing runs along the Milla de Oro towards Estepona; on a clear day the Rock of Gibraltar shows on the horizon. Wind decides the day here: a study by María Ortega and colleagues, published in 2022 in the International Journal of Climatology from a 6 km-resolution meteorological reanalysis, quantifies these regional winds and counts around eighty levante days and as many poniente days a year over the Strait of Gibraltar, on a marked annual cycle (see the study). In short: check the forecast before booking a non-refundable outing. See the marinas around Marbella and our neighbouring Estepona hub.

September in Marbella: the base that does not drop at all

Our readings give a €1,400 median for August outings against €1,420 for September ones, i.e. +1%: with that near-zero gap, Marbella is the most stable of the ten bases read this week. Again, composition does the talking: the Puerto Banús yacht fleet does not leave the catalogue in the shoulder season, unlike the small units of resort towns. So do not hunt a September discount here — hunt the right segment instead: the gap between the €58 first motorboat and the €4,400 median yacht is incomparably more rewarding to work than a 1% seasonal move. On licensing, Spain allows 15 hp (11 kW) without a qualification on a hull of 5 m maximum, in daylight and within 2 nautical miles of shelter. See the budget for a weekend afloat.

Marbella's waters, in practice

The western Costa del Sol below La Concha, between Marbella and the legend of Puerto Banús. Wind-wise: the Andalusian alternation of poniente and levante, which decides the day’s sea state.

Departures, day-trip classics and season

Departures: Puerto Banús and its fabled quays, plus the Marbella town marina. The local classics: the Milla de Oro seen from the water, the beaches towards Estepona and, on clear days, the Rock of Gibraltar on the horizon. High season: from May to October, the jet set inflating high-summer prices.

How much does it cost to rent a boat in Marbella?

On our reading of 27 August 2026 for a 26 September outing: 100 offers from €58 to €19,600, median €1,420. But that median describes no real boat: 44 of the 100 offers are yachts (€4,400 median). For an ordinary outing the marker is the motorboat, €660 median across 31 offers, from €58.

Should you rent at Puerto Banús or in Marbella harbour?

For the sailing itself they are equivalent — 6.7 km apart — but not for the budget: Puerto Banús concentrates the yacht fleet that drags our median to €1,420, while the four bases in central Marbella (all within a kilometre) carry more of the small units, including the €58 offer logged in the motorboat category.
