51 offers, sailboats at €287: the affordable heart of the Costa del Sol
Reading of 23 August 2026 for a 22 September outing: 51 offers, median €600 per day, first offer at €81, the dearest at €3,200. The category breakdown opens up considerable gaps: sailboat €287 median (8 offers, from €94), catamaran €292 (a single offer), RIB €328 (7 offers, from €175), license-free €575 (2 offers, €550 to €600), motorboat €800 (17 offers, from €81), yacht €2,700 (3 offers, from €2,600). That €575 license-free figure needs a warning: on two offers only it is a signal, not a market rate — and it is the dearest license-free reading of our ten bases, ahead of Cala d’Or (€400) and Palma (€300). One harbour mid-seafront, Marbella twenty-two kilometres on
The Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola, 700 m from the centre below Sohail castle, is the town’s only departure point (OpenStreetMap records). Westward, Puerto Cabopino is 12.3 km out, then the four Marbella bases — Marina Marbella, Puerto Pesquero, Marina la Bajadilla and Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen — between 22.5 and 24 km. The water is a bay open onto the Alboran Sea: sheltered from the levante by the coast, exposed to the poniente, with a thermal breeze that builds in early afternoon. Allow for residual swell from the strait when the westerly has blown the day before. See Málaga or Marbella, renting a boat in Andalusia and the marinas around Fuengirola.
September in Fuengirola: the only one of this week's ten bases that does not drop
Handle this figure carefully, and read it properly: the median for August outings comes out at €517, that for September outings at €613, so +19%. Fuengirola is the only one of the ten bases read this week whose September median exceeds its August one. This is not a price rise: it is a composition effect on a sample of 51 offers, the fleet still open thirty days out holding proportionally more large motorboats. The underlying reason is structural: a 2008 study by Antonio Fernández-Morales and María Cruz Mayorga-Toledano in Tourism Management decomposed the seasonal concentration of hotel demand on the Costa del Sol by nationality (see the study) — on this coast demand is spread far more evenly across the year than in the eastern Mediterranean, which is why you do not find the shoulder-season discounts of Skiathos or Trogir. On the rules, Spain requires no qualification up to 15 hp (11 kW) on a hull of 5 m maximum, in daylight and within 2 nautical miles of shelter. See Marbella and the Costa del Sol, prices by country and last-minute rentals.
Fuengirola's waters, in practice
The middle of the Costa del Sol, an open bay below the Sohail castle, between Marbella and Málaga. Wind-wise: regular sea breezes, the levante bringing summer’s only unsettled days.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Fuengirola harbour, in the middle of the seafront. The local classics: the Mijas and Calahonda shore, the bay’s town beaches and Benalmádena with its Moorish-style marina. High season: from May to October, with common dolphins as a bonus offshore.
