A 1-to-410 ratio: the most dispersed catalogue in all our readings

Reading of 28 August 2026 for a 27 September outing: 52 offers, median €505 per day, first offer at €41, the dearest at €16,790. That is a ratio of 1 to 410 between the two ends — the widest of the 157 bases where we log at least forty offers, ahead of Collioure (1 to 403) and Marbella (1 to 338). No other base in our collection puts that much distance between its headline price and its ceiling on the same day. The detail: motorboat 17 offers at €408 (€47 to €824), catamaran 5 offers at €873 but with a €16,790 ceiling, yacht 4 offers at €745. Málaga remains the 7th cheapest of our 25 Spanish bases. Three harbours in town, then twenty-three kilometres of nothing

IGY Málaga Marina is 800 metres away, the Real Club Mediterráneo marina 1.7 km, Puerto Deportivo del Candado 6.8 km — and then no harbour at all before Fuengirola, at 26.5 km. Next come Caleta de Vélez at 31.6 km, Cabopino at 38.8 km and Marbella's four harbours between 46.7 and 48.2 km, out to José Banús at 54.1 km: only 12 harbours inside the 60 km radius, the 151st density of our 183 bases (OpenStreetMap data, ODbL). In other words you leave from the city and sail a coast with no bolt-hole close by. The sea, meanwhile, is warming: a study by Benyounes Abdellaoui and colleagues, published in 2024 in Mediterranean Marine Science, analysed twenty years of satellite data (January 2001 to December 2020) over the Alborán Sea and measures surface warming of 0.027 ± 0.008 °C per year (at 95% confidence), together with a fall in chlorophyll-a of 0.0024 ± 0.0003 µg/l per year; the authors stress that this warming is not homogeneous and depends on the Atlantic Jet / Western Alborán Gyre system, most active in summer and autumn. That is what stretches the swimming season into October — and what makes water temperature vary from one anchorage to the next. See the marinas around Malaga and Andalusia by boat.

The cheapest licence-free boats we log — with a caveat worth reading

On the latest reading, licence-free boats come out at a €52 median on 5 offers (€41 to €250), the lowest of the 38 bases where we log at least five. The caveat: between August outings (€40) and September ones (€204), that category's median is multiplied by five — a gap which signals that different durations (hour, half-day, full day) are being mixed, not a shoulder-season discount. So treat that €41 as an entry point to verify on the listing, not as the price of a day. Spain allows unlicensed helming up to 15 hp (11 kW) on a hull of 5 m maximum, in daylight and within 2 nautical miles of shelter — the local harbour master may refine the rule. The overall median, for its part, rises from €400 to €460 between August and September, a composition effect across 52 offers. Malaga's waters, in practice

The broad, open bay of Málaga, below the hills that give the city its land wind. Wind-wise: the terral, Málaga’s hot signature land wind, alternating with the sea breezes.

Departures, day-trip classics and season

Departures: Málaga’s renovated city harbour, minutes on foot from the old town. The local classics: the Malagueta and Pedregalejo beaches, the coast towards Fuengirola and the Maro-Cerro Gordo coves further east. High season: from May to October, a big port city smoothing demand outside summer.
