From €175 to €900: a 1-to-5 ratio, unmatched in our readings
Reading of 27 August 2026 for a 26 September outing: 29 offers, median €400 per day, first offer at €175, the dearest at €900. A ratio of just 1 to 5.1 — by far the tightest range in our entire collection, where Kaş stood at 1 to 15 and Šibenik at 1 to 9. The reason is plain as soon as you open the categories: 19 sailboats and 10 catamarans, i.e. all 29 logged offers. No yacht, no motorboat, nothing to lift the ceiling. The sailboat comes out at a €350 median (€175 to €786) and the catamaran at €667 (€200 to €900). Two further lines complete the picture but come from earlier readings, which we date rather than blend in: the RIB at €314 (6 offers, 20 August reading) and one "license-free" offer at €92 (13 August). See "from" price or firm price and choosing the right platform.
Two marinas within a kilometre, Lefkada fifteen out — and 130 to 170 dolphins
Preveza guards the mouth of the Gulf of Ambracia: Preveza marina is 600 m away, Cleopatra Marina 1.6 km, then Mytikas at 6 km, Salaora at 13 km, Lefkas Marina at 14.8 km, Koronisia at 15.3 km, Paliampela at 16.6 km, Kastrosykia at 17.6 km, Nikiana Marina at 22.2 km and Ligia at 26.7 km — 21 marinas within the 60 km radius (OpenStreetMap records). The enclosed gulf that opens behind the town holds a remarkable population: a study by Joan Gonzalvo and colleagues, published in 2016 in Advances in Marine Biology, tracked the Gulf of Ambracia's common bottlenose dolphins by photo-identification over ten years (2006-2015) and puts the population at between 130 and 170 animals, one of the highest densities observed in the Mediterranean for this species, with a declining trend of 1.6% per year and strong year-round site fidelity (see the study). High density does not mean a healthy population: keep your distance and cut the engine rather than follow. See the marinas around Preveza and our neighbouring base of Lefkada.
September: −3%, and a base built for the week
The median moves from €369 for August outings to €359 for September ones, i.e. −3%: unsurprising stability on a catalogue made up entirely of cruising boats, rented by the week and booked far ahead. What Preveza offers in September is not a discount but the Ionian at its best — steadier winds than at the height of summer, free anchorages. On the rules: in Greece operators commonly rent boats up to 30 hp without a licence, but that does not cover the boats logged here, all cruising sailboats and catamarans: plan for a recognised qualification or a skipper. The local port police always has the final say on its waters. See the Ionian for first-time sailors, last-minute rental and all our Greek bases.
Preveza's waters, in practice
The mouth of the Ambracian gulf, a dolphin-rich inland sea, off the waters of the battle of Actium. Wind-wise: docile Ionian breezes, the inner gulf staying flat when the open sea gets up.
Departures, day-trip classics and season
Departures: the Preveza marinas and the town anchorage. The local classics: the Ambracian gulf and its dolphins, Lefkada through the canal to the south, and Paxos and Antipaxos offshore. High season: from May to October, and a renowned wintering base for cruising yachts.
