One ria, ten bases, and the Krka upstream

Šibenik is a ria: you enter through the narrow St Anthony channel, under the St Nicholas fortress, and the town opens onto a perfectly sheltered basin. The departure points (OpenStreetMap records): Luka Šibenik at 200 m, D-Marin Mandalina at 1.8 km — the city’s main base —, Luka Zablaće at 3.7 km, the Solaris Yacht Marina at 4 km, Marina Zaton at 6.8 km and Luka Krapanj at 7.4 km. A little further out, ACI marina Vodice (9.3 km, 273 berths), ACI Marina Skradin (9.4 km, 180 berths) at the foot of the Krka falls, and Marina Tribunj (11.6 km). Running up the Krka to Skradin is the signature outing: you navigate a highly stratified estuary where fresh water slides over salt. A 2015 study by Ana-Marija Cindrić et al. in Marine Pollution Bulletin characterised that stratification and the dynamics of trace metals across the estuary, separating natural from anthropogenic inputs (see the study) — a useful reminder when you anchor in a confined environment.
