Calvi boat rental: the Revellata peninsula and Girolata

Rent a boat in Calvi for the Revellata peninsula and the gulf of Girolata: Balagne coves, the Scandola reserve and practical navigation advice.

Calvi pairs a dramatic citadel with some of the clearest water in Corsica. From the bay, two directions open up: the Revellata peninsula close at hand, and further off the gulf of Girolata, gateway to the Scandola reserve. A rental boat turns this Balagne coast into a memorable day out.

Revellata in half a day

The Revellata headland is about twenty minutes of easy cruising from the harbour. Its sheltered coves and lone lighthouse offer sand anchorages and water ideal for snorkelling. It is the perfect plan for a first outing or a half-day with the family, without straying far from Calvi bay.

Below the lighthouse, a series of coves lie more or less sheltered depending on the wind: in a morning land breeze, the water here is often perfectly still. Anchor on the pale sand patches, leave the seagrass alone, and keep an eye on the tour-boat traffic that skirts the peninsula in summer. A mask and fins are all you need to enjoy the rocky bottom, teeming with fish in places.

On to Girolata and Scandola

For full days, head south-west towards Girolata, a hamlet reachable only by sea or on foot. On the way, red cliffs announce the Scandola nature reserve, where navigation and anchoring are regulated: check the permitted zones before you set off. Carry enough fuel and a comfortable weather window, as the distance is not trivial.

At Girolata, anchoring in the bay is a great classic: arrive early to find room and enjoy lunch in peace before the midday rush. The run back to Calvi is often against the afternoon thermal breeze; plan for it so you do not return into an uncomfortable chop. This outing rewards forward-planning crews who watch the weather and do not overload their programme.

Which boat for this coast

A RIB (200–600 €/day) is the best ally for linking Revellata and Girolata with speed to spare; to go further or sleep aboard, a sailing yacht (300–700 €/day, or 1,500–4,000 €/week) opens other options. Book early in summer: boat rental in Calvi is in high demand, and prices for the same boat often vary by 10 to 25 % between platforms.

Prepare and compare

Calvi is a natural stop on a Corsica by boat trip, to combine with the rest of the Corsican coast. On budget, Boat-Comparator queries Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor live, unaffiliated: you compare the real total (service fees 0 to 9 %) and the cancellation policy, which varies by owner and should be checked listing by listing. Booking a few weeks ahead widens your choice in peak season, when the most popular boats sell out first, and comparing across platforms is the simplest way to avoid overpaying for the very same boat.
