Below the lighthouse, a series of coves lie more or less sheltered depending on the wind: in a morning land breeze, the water here is often perfectly still. A mask and fins are all you need to enjoy the rocky bottom, teeming with fish in places.
On to Girolata and Scandola
For full days, head south-west towards Girolata, a hamlet reachable only by sea or on foot. On the way, red cliffs announce the Scandola nature reserve, where navigation and anchoring are regulated: check the permitted zones before you set off. Carry enough fuel and a comfortable weather window, as the distance is not trivial.
At Girolata, anchoring in the bay is a great classic: arrive early to find room and enjoy lunch in peace before the midday rush. The run back to Calvi is often against the afternoon thermal breeze; plan for it so you do not return into an uncomfortable chop. This outing rewards forward-planning crews who watch the weather and do not overload their programme.
