Porto-Vecchio boat rental: Palombaggia and Cerbicale

Rent a boat in Porto-Vecchio for Palombaggia, the Cerbicale islands and Bonifacio: southern Corsica beaches, anchorages and sound navigation advice.

The gulf of Porto-Vecchio unlocks the best of southern Corsica: the Palombaggia and Santa Giulia beaches, the Cerbicale islands, and further south the cliffs of Bonifacio. A rental boat is the key here to turquoise water that the road does no justice.

Palombaggia and the Cerbicale

From the marina, a course south leads gently to Palombaggia, its pines and pink sand, then to the Cerbicale islands, a nature reserve with protected wildlife: landing on the islets is forbidden, but the anchorages around them offer superb water. Drop the anchor on sand, clear of seagrass, and respect the regulated zones.

Palombaggia rewards an early start: in July and August, the beach and its surroundings fill quickly, and the best anchoring spots go before midday. A pleasant plan is to string together a morning swim at Palombaggia, lunch at anchor near the Cerbicale, then an easy return to Santa Giulia at the end of the day. Always keep distance from swimmers and slow right down as you approach the beaches.

Pushing on to Bonifacio

Long days let you head south to Bonifacio and its limestone cliffs, spectacular from the sea. The distance is real: favour a fast RIB (200–600 €/day) or a motor cruiser (250–900 €/day), leave early and keep a margin of fuel and time. The strait can be wind-exposed: this is not an outing to improvise in poor weather.

Entering the Bonifacio inlet beneath the high perched town is a highlight of sailing in southern Corsica. If a westerly is established, the sea can build between Porto-Vecchio and the straits: in that case, save this leg for a calmer day or consider a skipper (150–350 €/day) to handle the distance and the passage safely.

Booking the right base

Boat rental in Porto-Vecchio is popular in summer; booking from Bonifacio can also bring the Lavezzi closer. Wherever you start, the same boat often varies by 10 to 25 % between platforms: comparing is no small detail.

Compare without slipping up

This coast is among the busiest in southern Corsica. On budget, Boat-Comparator compares Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor live, unaffiliated with any: you see the real total once service fees are added (0 to 9 %) and the cancellation policy, which varies by owner and should be read listing by listing. Booking several weeks ahead in high season widens your choice, as the finest boats sell out first. And because the same boat can cost 10 to 25 % more on one platform than another, a quick comparison often pays for itself before you have even cast off. Set your dates as early as you can, as the finest boats in Porto-Vecchio are booked out well before the summer rush. Brands remain the property of their respective owners.
