Cannes Yachting Festival 2026: following the boat show from the water
From 8 to 13 September 2026, over 700 boats on display at the Vieux Port and Port Canto. How to enjoy Europe’s biggest in-water boat show without exhibiting a boat of your own — by renting one.
From 8 to 13 September 2026, the Vieux Port and Port Canto host the Cannes Yachting Festival, Europe’s largest in-water boat show: over 700 boats on display, from RIBs to yachts dozens of metres long, shown afloat rather than under a roof. For anyone weighing a rental over a purchase, it is also a rare chance to step aboard models you would never come across in a rental fleet.
A show afloat, not under a marquee
Unlike a conventional show, Cannes Yachting Festival boats stay moored along the pontoons of the Vieux Port and Port Canto: you visit them on foot along the quays, climb aboard, and compare layouts in real conditions. The Power Cat Village, dedicated to motor catamarans, rounds out the offering at the Vieux Port.
What it means for a day on the water
Show week significantly thickens traffic in Cannes bay: shuttle boats, exhibitor sea trials and onlookers cross paths near the entrance channels. A rental outing is still possible, but it’s best to head for the Lérins Islands rather than hug the seafront at peak times — our guide to boat trips from Cannes and the Lérins covers the route.
A concentration of boats that is not without effect
Cannes is not an isolated case: the Mediterranean already carries a heavy density of leisure boating in summer, and the first comprehensive scientific review of the topic lists anchoring damage to Posidonia seagrass beds, engine noise and hull-borne species spread among the best-documented impacts (Carreño & Lloret, Environmental impacts of increasing leisure boating activity in Mediterranean coastal waters, Ocean and Coastal Management, 2021, see the study on Google Scholar) — a useful reminder during a week when the bay holds even more boats than usual.
Renting rather than buying: compare before deciding
The show inevitably tempts; before committing to a purchase, our guide to renting vs buying a boat compares both options with real figures. To get out on the water during festival week, Boat-Comparator compares live offers from Boataround, SamBoat and Click&Boat in Cannes, with the usual French Riviera price ranges covered in our real price guide.
