BOAT-COMPARATOR Guide
Boat Rental in Lagos and Portimão, in the Algarve
The cliffs of Ponta da Piedade, Portimão's big marina: where to rent a boat in the western Algarve, Portugal.
In the western Algarve, Lagos and Portimão offer a different approach from Albufeira further east — dramatic ochre cliffs and calmer water early and late in the day.
Lagos and the cliffs of Ponta da Piedade
Just south of Lagos, Ponta da Piedade lines up ochre sandstone cliffs pierced with caves and natural arches, carved by erosion — every bit as striking as the Benagil caves (see our dedicated Benagil guide) but quieter, best explored by RIB or a small license-free boat in the early morning light.
Portimão, the west's big marina
Portimão, at the mouth of the Arade river, has one of the Algarve's largest marinas, with direct access to Praia da Rocha and its rock formations.
When to go
The season readily stretches from April to October, with a westerly thermal wind (the nortada) that typically picks up by late morning in summer — early outings stay the calmest for cruising along the cliffs.
Budget and comparison
License-free boat €100-250/day, RIB €200-600/day, motorboat €250-900/day. Boat-Comparator compares Boataround, SamBoat, Click&Boat and GlobeSailor for Lagos and Portimão in one search.
